At Future Biogas, biodiversity is a core principle embedded in the agricultural practices we promote and our infrastructure development.
Through our Bioenergy Crop Charter and Sustainable Farming Practices, we work closely with our grower partners to promote environmentally responsible farming techniques that support local ecosystems.
As a business, we sponsor the planting of over 8 hectares of wild flower margins on our growing partners’ land.
These wildflower margins not only provide habitats and forage for pollinators like bees and butterflies but also contribute to the overall ecological resilience of the farming landscape.
From Insects to Birds: Building a Home for Wildlife
We’re committed to creating vibrant, life-supporting environments both within and around our operational sites. This includes the installation of insect hotels, bee habitats, bird nest boxes, and the replanting of native hedgerows — all of which encourage species diversity and promote year-round shelter and food sources.
At new-build facilities, net biodiversity gain is a formal requirement, and we incorporate natural screening and landscaped lagoons to blend infrastructure with the local environment. We’re also working to rewild underutilised areas within our sites, allowing nature to reclaim and flourish in previously managed zones.
Soil Health as a Foundation for Life
Healthy soil is the bedrock of biodiversity, and our approach to soil regeneration through our Sustainable Farming Practices directly supports microbial ecosystems, earthworms, and nutrient cycles — all critical to broader environmental health. Our use of solid digestate as a soil conditioner boosts soil organic matter, builds soil fertility, and enhances the soil microbiome, which in turn improves water retention, root development, and carbon sequestration. These benefits extend beyond crop productivity — they help maintain the balance of soil-dwelling organisms that underpin entire food webs.
