Tony brings nearly three decades of experience in energy to his role as Chair of Future Biogas. He held senior executive leadership roles at Powergen and E.ON, including CEO / Chair at E.ON UK, and currently serves as a Non-Executive Director at SSE plc and as Chair of Infinis Energy Management. In 2024, he was appointed Chair of the Energy Systems Catapult, reinforcing his commitment to bridging innovation and energy systems transformation.
Tony joined the energy sector almost by accident, having started his career in strategy consulting and then the beer industry. He says that he didn’t expect to stay in the sector but became fascinated by the challenges and changes, was thoroughly engaged through continuously learning from colleagues and from progressively larger and different roles at E.ON, and now is super-interested in the different perspectives he gets from his four current organisations, and is inspired by the opportunities in each – and by helping the teams deliver them.
Outside energy, Tony is married and is a proud father of two adult children, was a school governor for a decade, and is a self-confessed nerd with D.Phil in Mathematics and MBA. In his leisure time, he enjoys travelling, hiking, reading, skiing – and sometimes just chatting.
